Noiret

Chancelor / Steuben cross

USED TO MAKE NOIRET WINE

Produces an excellent full-bodied , richly colored red wine with a distinct green and black pepper character and moderate tannin content. The wines also have notes of raspberry, blackberry and mint aroma. The excellent tannin structure and absence of hybrid aromas sets this variety apart from other red hybrids.

GRAPE MAKES SEMI-SWEET WINE

One of the most productive and disease-resistant varieties grown in New York. This versatile grape can be made into a semi-sweet wine emphasizing the fruity aromas or, using oak aging, into a dry, less fruity wine. Its excellent cultural characteristics and high wine quality promise an important for this variety.

St. Vincent

Named after the patron saint of Cote d'Or in the Burgundy region of France

MAKES AN EXCELLENT RED WINE SIMILAR TO AN ITALIAN CHIANTI

St. Vincent is a moderately vigorous, mid-to-late season grape. Cluster thinning is sometimes needed. This grape makes an excellent red similar to an Italian chianti- bright red to brick red in color, with a complex nose but light with cherry, nutty and smoky overtones. The wine has cherry and citrus flavors with melon toasted nut overtones, aftertaste is long and complex. St. Vincent can also make an excellent sparkling rose.

Vignole

Makes wines that pair well with spicy foods

Very versatile variety

Vignoles vines are cold hardy, with late bud break. Clusters of white berries are small and compact with susceptibility to botrytis fruit rot, but Vignoles is a very versatile variety with the potential for excellent wine quality. Vignoles can produce many different types of wine, and is frequently used for dessert wine. Wines made from ripe fruit have tropical fruit, citrus and pineapple flavors. Pairs well with spicy foods.

Seyval Blanc is a yellow-white variety with large, compact clusters of medium berries, and great winter hardiness. An excellent white wine variety.

Another hybrid whose main parent is the French / German grape Gewurztraminer. This is an excellent grape that makes several styles of rich, spicy white wine; from dry to late harvest sweet.

Concord

Most famous American grape

Used as a varietal or blender for sweet wines

Concord is the most famous American grape with vigorous, hardy and productive vines that produce medium sized clusters bearing large blue-black berries. Concord grapes are tough skinned, flavorful and highly aromatic – an all purpose grape used to make grape jelly, juice, grape flavored soft drinks, and candy. Concord is used for kosher wines or as a varietal or blender for sweet wines.

Edelweiss

Used to make sweet, white wines

Fruity labrusca flavor

Early ripening, white grape that produces large clusters of medium-sized fruit that is sweet and has a pleasant flavor. Very winter hardy and excellent disease resistance, but may require winter protection for reliable fruiting in Zones 3 and 4. When fruit is harvested early, it can make a sweet white wine with mild, fruity labrusca flavor. Edelweiss can also be used as a table grape, and for juices and jellies.

Named in July 2006, Valvin Muscat It is a mid-season white wine grape with a distinctive muscat flavor. Produces a high aromatic varietal wine. Grafted vines were used. It is more disease resistant and winter hardy than vinifera muscat varieties.
